Renee, thank you so much for this important piece. I know people are hearing the issue, and many are making the choice to not continue to add lead to the environment.

I agree with Kim, these should be banned! I use live traps and just bring the mice to a woodsy park about a mile from my house. They are always alive and doing well when I release them. Works wonderfully!

I would very much like to continue to receive Vet Renee's series re: WNV. Will they continue to be sent out thru WRC's emails or do we need to sign up separately for receiving them? Please advise. Thank you.

Yep, usual grim stuff courtesy a certain sector of humanity who prefer to kill living creatures rather than appreciate their ingenuity, and beauty.

About a year ago some guy telephoned a talk-in radio programme over here (UK). It was a debate about the safe use (or not) of firearms/rifles/guns. In the course of his conversation he mentioned the fact that he encourages his 9 year old to shoot squirrels when they pass through his garden. Sadly, the presenter (Jeremy Vine) didn't express astonishment at this incredible declaration, although someone did call the programme a bit later to express her disbelief that a person could actually be bringing up his child in such a horrendously negative and crusel fashion.

Thought I'd share that with you. David.

AMEN! I worked at Home Depot and did my best to discourage customers from those horrific traps. I suggested snap traps as being more humane, but more over, if they had a problem in their basement or attic I suggested the sonic/plug in deterrent. For us, it worked wonders in our basement. Not a dropping anywhere after we plugged it in.
I am a wildlife rehabber as well. I take care of squirrels only, and can attest to the fact that the sonic repeller does not bother my rehab squirrels (on a different floor of the house).
I wish we could pressure stores like Home Depot and Lowe's to ban the product. But it is highly unlikely. Heck, they still carry Scotts birdseed and Scott's knowingly poisoned thousands of songbirds with tainted seed until they were caught..and given a slap on the wrist. Sad, sad world we live in when humans cannot solve issues other than using glue traps and poisons!

Thank you for speaking out on the cruelty of glue traps. After living in the Twin Cities my entire life, hubby & I moved our family (4 cats + 1 dog) to Seattle, into a charming rental home in Seattle.

The move went well, we splurged on a private jet to minimize stress to our pets and had hired someone to prepare the house (litter boxes in place, most furniture put in place, bed made, pet food in cupboards, etc.) for our family's arrival.

Everyone made the trip just fine, and the cats warily ventured out of their carriers, happy to see their scratching posts, water dishes, food bowls, and litter boxes within easy reach.

An hour later we heard an unholy yowl as the most timid of our cats, Jasper, had gone exploring downstairs and was caught in a glue trap hidden behind a curtain and under a cabinet! Thank God we were home and were able to slowly release him using an entire bottle of olive oil, many gentle words and prayers, and all the towels we possess.

I had never seen a glue trap in my life and hope to never see one again. This animal was in pure agony: terrified and in pain.

A glue trap will get stuck FOREVER to anything: a mouse, a cat, a hand, a child! They should be illegal!

Thank you, WRC, for ALL you do for the animals. You are angels and true disciples of St. Francis of Assisi on this earth.
